BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Elmira College men's soccer program traveled to Buffalo on Wednesday night and tallied a 2-1 victory against Medaille as the Soaring Eagles handed the Mavericks their first regulation loss of the season in a pivotal Empire 8 Conference matchup.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Soaring Eagles would hold off an early offensive push by Medaille as the Mavericks peppered four shots toward Elmira goalkeeper
Zachary Raffino '23 through the opening 24 minutes of action. Medaille would eventually take a 1-0 lead in the match after finding the back of the net in the 36th minute.
Elmira would get an opportunity to knot the score in the 41st minute as
Kerfalla Toure '26 was taken down inside the box after getting behind the Medaille defense.
Gavin Wise '22 would take the penalty kick and beat the Mavericks' goalkeeper for his fifth goal of the season to knot the score 1-1.
Just over three minutes later, the Purple & Gold would strike again as
Martin Harguindey '26 worked his way close into the box and would find the back of the net to make it 2-1. Harguindey's tally in the 44th minute was his seventh of the season and tied him with
Lutho Mlunguza '23 for the team lead.
The Soaring Eagles would turn to defense in the second half as Medaille would record seven shots with a pair being stopped along the way by Raffino. The Mavericks had several opportunities to knot the score as they would take nine corners in the half but were unable to find the back of the net.
Raffino stopped two of the three shots that he faced in the match for Elmira, while Wise and Harguindey each recorded a pair of shots on goal for the Soaring Eagles.
Rassoul Camara '26 also recorded a shot on goal for the Soaring Eagles in the match.
