NORTHFIELD, VT – The Elmira College Men's Ice Hockey team battled to a 1-1 tie against the Cadets from Norwich University on Friday evening inside Kreitzberg Arena.
In a defensive battle, Chris Janzen '21 was able to fend off 38 Cadet shots, while Norwich goaltender Drennen Atherton made 31 saves in net. The Soaring Eagles were able to hold off the Cadets on three of its four power-play opportunities, including a trio in the third period.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
After a 12-minute stand that saw neither team finding the back of the net, Ryan Reifler '24 scored the game's opening goal on assists from Jared Smith '24 and Chance Gorman '24. From there, both teams finished the period with a clean sheet, with Janzen making five first period saves.
In the second, the Cadets were able to cash in on a power-play opportunity after Bailey Krawczyk '24 was sent to the box on a slashing call. Logan vande Meerakker found the back of the twine at the 14:18 mark, just 40 seconds into the power-play, on assists from Clark Kerner and Keegan Mantaro.
From there, both goaltenders held clean sheets, sending the game to overtime tied 1-1. With each of the teams already picking up a point in the standings, a 3-on-3 opportunity presented each team with a handful of opportunities.
In total, Janzen & Atherton combined to make 11 saves, including a few one-on-one opportunities for each, concluding the contest 1-1. For Janzen, 38 saves marked a season-best.
