WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Elmira College baseball program opened the 2022 season with a pair of games on the road against Gallaudet as both teams would split a pair of 18-6 decisions at Hoy Field.

Anthony Goncalves recorded his first win at the helm of the Purple & Gold after seeing his team rally for a game one victory against the Bison.

KEY MOMENT:
Elmira would take a 7-6 lead in the top of the fourth inning of game one following a run-scoring single from
Ryan Trenholm '25.
The Soaring Eagles scored 10 runs in the top of the sixth inning of game one.
Gallaudet plated 12 runs in the bottom of the first inning of game two.
Elmira scored each of its six runs in the middle innings of game two after plating three runs in the third inning.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Gallaudet jumped out to a 3-0 lead in game one as the Bison plated a pair of runs in the first inning against Elmira starter
Angus Adams '22.
Steve Leopold '22 would give the Soaring Eagles a 4-3 lead in the top of the third inning following a bases-clearing double.
Gallaudet answered with three runs in the bottom of the third as a trio of run-scoring hits knotted the score 6-6.
The Soaring Eagles would take a 12-6 lead in the top of the sixth inning as
Mason Ryan reached on a fielder's choice that allowed three runs to score.
Brett Warden '25 followed with a bases-clearing triple that increased the advantage to 15-6.
Gallaudet plated 12 runs and would chase Elmira starter
Ray Mineo '22 in the bottom of the first inning of game two. A bases-clearing triple highlighted the frame for the Bison.
Elmira answered with three runs in the third inning as a two-run double from Leopold trimmed the deficit to 12-3. The Soaring Eagles later trimmed the deficit to 12-5 after plating a pair of runs in the fourth inning.
Gallaudet answered by scoring three runs in the fourth inning and later two runs in the sixth inning.
STATS:
The Soaring Eagles tallied 13 hits and would take advantage of three Gallaudet errors in their game one victory.
Five different EC hitters tallied two hits in the contest as Trenholm paced Elmira.
Trenholm finished with four runs batted in for Elmira, while Leopold and Warden each added three RBI.
The Soaring Eagles used just two pitchers in the opening game as Adam worked through five innings on the mound before giving way to
Justin Hyde '25.
Leopold and
Jourdan Plaisted '21 each knocked in a pair of runs for Elmira in game two against the Bison.
Elmira sent five pitchers to the mound in game two as
Robert Gruber '22 worked three innings of relief after getting the Soaring Eagles out of the bottom of the first inning.
The Bison tallied 16 hits in game two and were paced by a four-hit performance from leadoff hitter Darren Drolsbaugh. Drolsbaugh went 4-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored.
NOTES AND NOTABLES:
Adams notched his first career win on the mound for Elmira after fanning six batters through five innings of work.
Elmira pitchers recorded 15 strikeouts on the day and issued only six walks to Bison hitters.
Leopold combined for four hits and five RBI on the day for Elmira, while
Jared Money '22 tallied three hits to go along with three runs scored and one RBI for the Purple & Gold.
