ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira College women's basketball program played its second of three consecutive games at home on Tuesday as the Soaring Eagles saw a first-half lead slip away against Alfred University in a 66-58 loss in Empire 8 action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Soaring Eagles opened the contest with a jumper from
Desiree Roy '25 less than a minute into play with a jumper in the paint. Alfred answered with some early offense and would take an 8-6 lead before the Purple & Gold rallied to take the lead.
D'Asia Jones '25 started the rally for Elmira with a layup off the fastbreak after a steal from
Olivia Ayres '25. EC would take a 10-8 advantage as
Alyssa Waters '22 connected on pair of shots at the free-throw line before Roy finished a layup at the 3:33 mark to make it 12-8. Elmira closed the quarter on a 4-0 run to take a 16-11 lead into the second quarter.
Alfred opened the second quarter with a run that would eventually turn into a lead as Ana Ion finished a layup to make it 17-16 in favor of the Saxons at the 7:43 mark.
Taylor Jung '25 helped to briefly give EC the lead back with a jumper to make it 18-17 before the Saxons answered to take a 24-20 advantage.
Trailing 29-22 with less than three minutes left to play in the half, Roy would get the EC offense going as her layup trimmed the deficit to 29-24. Waters would later sink a 3-pointer for the Purple & Gold to knot the score 29-29 before Roy beat the buzzer with a layup to give EC a 31-29 lead at the half.
The Saxons controlled the tempo in the third quarter as Alfred chipped away at EC's lead before knotting the score on several occasions. Waters would even the score at 43-43 with a jumper for EC before Alfred closed with a 7-0 run to take a 50-43 lead into the fourth quarter.
Elmira would do its best to cut the deficit to a one-possession contest in the fourth quarter as
Taylor Albrecht '22 finished a layup with 2:52 remaining to make it 56-52. The Saxons would stretch the lead to 62-52 over the next two minutes to help secure the second-half comeback on the road.
Roy's 18-point performance paced three Elmira players who finished with double-digits in points on the night as
Nevaeh Winston '25 tallied 10 to go along with a 10-point effort from Albrecht. Roy notched another double-double as she pulled down 11 rebounds on the night as both teams finished with 43 boards.
