UTICA, N.Y. – Elmira College exploded for 12 runs and 12 hits as the Soaring Eagles recorded a doubleheader split against the Utica University Pioneers on Saturday from the Utica Baseball Field in Empire 8 Conference action.

KEY MOMENT:
Myles Littlejohn '24 opened the scoring for Elmira in the top of the second inning with a run-scoring single.
Littlejohn and
Jared Money '22 highlighted a seven-run fourth inning by delivering a pair of two-run hits for the Soaring Eagles.
Angus Adams '22,
Kyle Tubbs '22, and
Jack Finnerty '23 combined to limit the Pioneers to just three runs off six hits in game one.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Soaring Eagles would get things going early on offense as Littlejohn delivered a single to left field in the top of the second inning that allowed
Nick Lees '25 to score and make it 1-0. Utica responded with a pair of runs to take a 2-1 advantage in the bottom of the frame against Adams and the Soaring Eagles.
Brett Warden '25 would knot the score 2-2 with a single in the third inning that allowed
Joe Morrone '22 to score, while Lees followed later in the frame by reaching base off an error by the Pioneers that allowed
Jourdan Plaisted '21 to score.
The fourth inning would see the Purple & Gold rally to plate seven runs against the Pioneers as Littlejohn and Money each tallied two-run singles, while Morrone,
Matteo Salvati '25, and
Jarod Signorelli '23 each added RBIs for Elmira.
Leading 10-2, Salvati added to Elmira's lead with a run-scoring single that allowed Warden to score to make it 11-2.
Mason Ryan '22 followed with a sacrifice fly later in the frame, allowing Lees to score and increase the advantage to 12-2. Utica plated a run in the bottom of the seventh inning following a walk with the bases loaded to trim the score to 12-3 before Finnerty recorded the final out for the Soaring Eagles.
The second game would move at a fast pace in the early going as
Ray Mineo '22 worked around a two-out walk in the bottom of the second inning and stranded a runner on base following a one-out single in the third inning.
Elmira opened the fifth inning with a pair of baserunners before the Pioneers recorded a strikeout and groundout to end the frame and keep the contest scoreless. Utica plated a pair of runs in the sixth inning to take a 2-0 advantage before the Soaring Eagles answered with a run in the seventh. Warden would score after opening the frame with a triple as Lees reached on a throwing error by the Pioneers.
Utica followed by scoring a run in the seventh inning and five more in the eighth en route to an 8-1 victory. The Soaring Eagles stranded five runners on base in the contest, while Mineo was handed the loss despite allowing just two runs through five innings of work.
STATS:
Littlejohn, Warden, and Morrone finished with multi-hit performances in game one for Elmira, while Littlejohn, Money, and Salvati each had multiple RBI outings for the Purple & Gold.
Warden, Lees, and Signorelli each recorded a stolen base for the Soaring Eagles in game one.
Tubbs tossed a scoreless inning of relief in the sixth inning of game one for Elmira as he yielded one hit and recorded one strikeout.
