CORNING, N.Y. – The Soaring Eagles took an early lead following a three-run second inning, but 10 unanswered runs by Wells College paved the way for a 12-3 victory for the Express on Tuesday afternoon from Corning Community College.

Brett Warden '25 highlighted a three-run second inning for the Soaring Eagles with a two-run single.
Wells plated a pair of runs in the fourth inning to take a 4-3 advantage and would not relinquish the lead.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Wells scored a pair of early runs against Elmira starter
Nick Lees '25 and gained a 2-0 advantage in the top of the second inning. The Soaring Eagles answered in the bottom of the frame as
Matteo Salvati '25 delivered a single to plate
Jourdan Plaisted '21 and make it 2-1.
Two batters later, Warden delivered a single down the third-base line that allowed Salvati and
Jared Money '25 to score and give Elmira a 3-2 advantage. Neither side would plate a run in the third inning as Wells rallied to retake the lead in the top of the fourth inning.
The Express rallied with two outs in the fourth inning as a double to right field allowed a pair of runs to score and make it 4-3.
Angus Adams '22 retired each of the first two batters for Wells before issuing a walk followed by a hit batter.
Elmira looked to quickly answer with some offense in the bottom of the frame as
James Delaney '22 tripled with two outs before Warden worked a walk for the Purple & Gold. The Express would get out of the inning with the lead as
Colin McLaughlin '22 hit a fly ball to right field that would be caught.
Wells added single runs in the fifth and seventh innings before putting up three runs in the eighth and ninth innings to open up a 12-3 lead. The Soaring Eagles would be unable to mount a rally against Jordan and the Express as he scattered three runs over nine innings while fanning nine batters.
STATS:
Plaisted, the reigning Empire 8 Player of the Week, finished the contest 4-for-4 at the plate with a run scored for Elmira.
The Soaring Eagles recorded their 12th triple of the season, setting a single-season program record.
Mason Ryan '22 reached base in his 11th consecutive game for Elmira after working a walk in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Soaring Eagles will travel to face No. 1 seed St. John Fisher on Friday for a twin bill beginning at noon from Dugan Yard. The winner of the best-of-three series will advance to the championship round to face either Utica or Sage on Friday, May 13 at the highest remaining seed.
