Pair of Goals from Mlunguza Lifts Elmira to 4-1 Victory Over Pitt-Bradford on Wednesday

ELMIRA, N.Y. – Lutho Mlunguza '23 would be the difference on Wednesday afternoon as the Elmira Men's Soccer team defeated the visiting Panthers from Pitt-Bradford 4-1 after the senior notched a pair of goals. After leading 2-0 headed into the break, the Soaring Eagles would surrender a quick goal in the second before scoring a pair of its own off the feet from Mlunguza and Alessandro Lancia '26. With the win, the Purple & Gold improve to 5-1-1 on the season before heading into Empire 8 Conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
It would take the Soaring Eagles just 13 minutes before breaking the scoreboard as Martin Harguindey '26 found Mlunguza for the games' opening goal. As the first half ensued, the game would remain quiet with solid defense on both sides, while Elmira was unable to execute until just one-minute remaining in the half.
 
At the 43:58 mark, Lancia found Harguindey for his 5th goal of the season which increased the Elmira lead to 2-0 heading into the break. In the opening half, the Soaring Eagles were able to produce 14 shots, with seven going on net. Asher Ellis '25 would receive the start in net for EC, making three saves in the opening frame.
 
From there, the Panthers would score just 2:41 into the second half on a goal from Spencer Sklar. That would conclude the offense for the Panthers who finished the game with eight shots, six finding the frame for Ellis.
 
In the 83rd minute of play, Mlunguza would score yet again, this time on an assist from Olivier Rusch '26 which gave the senior his second goal of the contest, while increasing the Soaring Eagle lead to 3-1. The offense would conclude at the 85:20 mark as off a throw-in, the Purple & Gold were able to quickly execute, finding Lancia who would notch the first goal of his collegiate career.
 
Elmira led the shots battle 27-8, with 14 of its shots going on net. Ellis would finish the game with five saves.
 
UP NEXT:
The Soaring Eagles return to the field on Saturday when they host the Gators from Russell Sage College to begin conference play. Kickoff is set for 4:00 PM from Campus Field.
