WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Elmira College Women's Volleyball team dropped a pair of 3-0 decisions on Saturday afternoon against Washington College and DeSales to wrap up the Worthington Classic. Maddie Boucher '24 paced the Soaring Eagles with a combined 12 blocks on the afternoon, while Asia Curkendall '25 added 30 assists and 20 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Washington held the advantage in nearly each statistical category, which included a 10-1 advantage in service aces throughout the match. After falling behind 2-0 in the first set, the Soaring Eagles went on a 9-0 run which included seven errors from the opposition during the span. From there, the Geese were able to put together a 10-2 run of its own, regaining the lead at 12-11. From there, kills from Calli Vocke '23 and Makenna Clark '25 evened the opening set once again at 13-13, but a 6-0 run to conclude the opening set from Washington College put the opposition ahead 1-0 in the match with a 25-18 set victory.
The second set would begin with both teams exchanging points before a 6-0 run put the Geese ahead 11-5. Elmira would take five of the next seven points which included a kill from Vocke and three Washington errors, but an 8-2 run from the opposition to close the frame put the visitors ahead 2-0 in the match with a 25-16 second set victory.
In the final set, the Soaring Eagles would record its lowest hitting percentage of the match (-.138), while the Geese hit its best (.208). Washington College would use three separate runs of 5-0 or greater during the set, propelling them to a 25-12 third set win.
In the match, Boucher recorded six kills while Amelia Martin '23 added ten digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Elmira struggled out the gate in the opening frame, recording five kills and five attacking errors (.000) compared to a .444 hitting percentage for the Bulldogs who notched ten kills in the frame. After Boucher started the match with a kill, DeSales would go on to score on each of the next six opportunities, part of a 13-4 run in the early going. The Soaring Eagles scored the next three points to trim its deficit to five, capped off by a kill from Sydney Meyers '25.
DeSales quickly rallied back, finishing the set on a 12-2 run to take the opening set, 25-10.
From there, the Purple & Gold battled in the second set, but came up short, 25-22. In the frame, the teams rallied to a deadlock 20-20 score, before a pair of Soaring Eagle errors and Bulldog kills secured the set for the visitors.
The Bulldogs would take the final set 25-10 after jumping out to an early 7-1 lead before using a 10-1 run nearing the end of the set to jump ahead 24-9. Martin finished the EC scoring with a kill, but Madison Smith secured the match for DeSales with a kill of her own on the next rally.
In the match, Martin and Boucher each recorded six kills, while Curkendall added 15 assists and 11 digs.
