ELMIRA, N.Y. – The No. 11 Elmira College women's ice hockey program continued its homestand on Friday as the Soaring Eagles cruised to a 5-1 victory against Salem State in an NEHC matchup inside the Murray Athletic Ice Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Shots would not be a problem for the Purple & Gold in the first period as Elmira notched 20 that would be stopped in the frame by Salem State goalkeeper Hannah Aveni. What would elude the Soaring Eagles in the opening frame would be a goal as EC and Salem State ended the period knotted 0-0.
The Soaring Eagles would look to
Morgan Mordini '22 to get the scoring started in the second period as she deflected a shot at the 4:26 mark that would beat the goalkeeper to make it 1-0.
Lexi Hoffmann '24 took the initial shot from the point and would get credit for the assist on Mordini's ninth goal of the season.
Elmira would find the back of the net twice more in the second period as reigning NEHC Rookie of the Week
Emma Bradbury '26 beat Aveni at the 13:39 mark to make it 2-0.
Katie Manning '25 was credited with the helper on Bradbury's fourth goal over the past week for the Purple & Gold.
Jenny Heath '22 pushed the Elmira lead to 3-0 at the 15:00 mark of the period after redirecting a shot from
Mary McCafferty '22.
Madi Morton '24 converted on the power play for the Soaring Eagles early in the third period as her shot would find its way through traffic to make it 4-0 at the 1:37 mark. Bradbury and
Erika Goleniak '25 both added assists on Morton's tally for Elmira. Manning closed the scoring for the Soaring Eagles with an unassisted goal at the 9:06 mark of the frame to make it 5-0 in favor of the Purple & Gold. The Vikings would spoil the shutout bid late in the third period as a tipped shot would find the back of the net at the 17:15 mark to trim the deficit to 5-1.
Alayna Breivogel '25 improved to 2-1-0 on the season for Elmira after stopping 11 shots in the contest. The Soaring Eagles won 54 faceoffs in the contest as
Claire Meeder '23 went 18-for-21, while McCafferty went 16-of-22.
