ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira College Women's Basketball team dropped its Friday evening matchup against the visiting Cardinals from St. John Fisher University, 71-54. After gaining an early 8-2 lead, the Soaring Eagles were unable to take advantage of forcing the Cardinals into a near season-high turnovers (22), as Fisher used a 22-6 advantage over the final five minutes of the opening quarter to propel themselves to victory.
Laura Bogota '25 would lead Elmira with 14 points, while Nevaeh Winston '25 tallied 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the bench.
In all, the Soaring Eagles would turn the ball over a season-high 32 times, leading to a 14-point edge for Fisher in points from turnovers. Additionally, an 18-5 advantage for the Cardinals in offensive rebounding led to its 28-1 advantage in second chance points.
In the loss, Abby Belcher '26 would record her second block of the season in just over three minutes of play, while Desiree Roy '25 would record eight points and four rebounds.
The Soaring Eagles played the Cardinals nearly even from inside the paint, as SJF held the 38-32 advantage in points, while the Cardinals converted six more shots from three-point range than the Soaring Eagles, who finished 2-of-10 from beyond the arc.
