Elmira Drops Final Game of Harold J. Brodie Classic to RIT

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Elmira College men's basketball took on RIT in its final game of the Harold J. Brodie Tournament, looking to build on its win over Bryant & Stratton Rochester on Friday evening. Despite a 22-point effort from Tyler Cardello '26, the Soaring Eagles could not keep up with the Tigers in the second half and fell by a final of 83-61.

JUST THE BASICS:
SCORE: Elmira 61, RIT 83
LOCATION: Rochester, New York | Clark Gymnasium
TEAM RECORDS: Elmira (3-6, 0-1 E8), RIT (5-3, 1-1 LL)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • After going down 7-2 within the first three minutes, the Soaring Eagles scored eight consecutive points to build a 10-7 lead over the next two minutes. From there, Elmira built a 28-19 lead with 7:38 left in the half, with Cardello, Marc Anthony Artuz '24, and Carter Seeberger '26 leading the way for the Soaring Eagles with seven, five, and four points, respectively.
  • However, three Tigers three-pointers in the next three minutes brought RIT back level at 30. Both teams traded baskets over the remaining four minutes of play in the first half, but a pair of makes from behind the arc in the final 38 seconds gave the Tigers a 41-36 lead entering the half.
  • A made jumper by Riley Spencer '26 and two good free throws by Cardello and Owen Evans '26 kept the game within 10 3:43 into the second half. However, RIT scored the next five points and took a 55-42 lead. The hosts went on an 8-4 run over the next four minutes before a Dylan Jacob '24 three-pointer brought the deficit down to 14.
  • Over the next four minutes, RIT outscored Elmira 16-5, building its lead to 79-54 with 5:32 left in the game. Jacob added five points in the next two minutes, but the Tigers' lead was too great to overcome, and the Soaring Eagles dropped the game 83-61.
  • Fourteen of Elmira's points came from second-chance shots, compared to just five for RIT. However, EC struggled with giving up points off turnovers, allowing 11 while only scoring three.
