SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. –
Chance Gorman '24 netted a pair of goals and pushed his goal-scoring streak to five consecutive games as the Elmira College men's ice hockey program recorded a 5-2 victory over Skidmore on Saturday in a crucial New England Hockey Conference matchup.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Tyler Schwindt '26 opened the scoring in the contest for the Soaring Eagles at the 11:07 mark of the first period. Schwindt would beat the goalkeeper after taking a feed from
Amedeo Mastrangeli '24 to make it 1-0. Mastrangeli notched his 19th assist of the season for Elmira, while
Daniel Dimon '24 was also credited with an assist.
Elmira would strike again just over two minutes later in the first period as Gorman netted his first of the contest at the 13:39 mark to make it 2-0.
Carter Wisely '25 and
Matt York '26 would both be credited with the assists for the Purple & Gold.
The Soaring Eagles would take a penalty late in the first period, which would allow Skidmore to work with an extra skater early in the second period. Skidmore trimmed the deficit to 2-1 just 1:58 into the frame as Kaeden Patrick netted a power-play goal.
Unlike its fortunes on Friday night, the Soaring Eagles would respond with three unanswered goals.
Nicholas Domitrovic '24 increased the Elmira lead to 3-1 at the 8:56 mark with
Nathan Young '25 and
Joel Pavey '25 getting credit for the assists.
Brendan Schultz '24 would beat the clock with time winding down in the second period as his shot would beat the goalkeeper with just 15 seconds remaining to make it 4-1.
Ryan Reifler '24 and
Shawn Kennedy '24 both helped set up the tally by Schultz for Elmira.
Less than a minute into the third period, Gorman netted his second goal of the contest as his unassisted tally would give the Purple & Gold a 5-1 advantage over Skidmore. At the 12:12 mark of the frame, Skidmore would add its second goal of the contest to trim the deficit to 5-2 but that would close out the scoring in the contest.
In goal for the Soaring Eagles,
Jeffrey Zero '23 turned away 30 of the 32 shots that he faced to improve to 3-3-1 on the season for Elmira. Zero stopped 11 shots in the second period and made 13 saves in the final frame to secure the victory for the Purple & Gold.

The Purple & Gold return home to the Murray Athletic Center for the final weekend of the regular season as Elmira will host New England College on Friday and Norwich University on Saturday.
