SCRANTON, PA. – In the first-ever meeting between the two programs, the Elmira College baseball team used an eight-run third inning and a four-run seventh inning on its way to a 16-7 victory on Wednesday against the Marywood Pacers.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Elmira opened the scoring in the top of the first inning against the Pacers as
Brett Warden '25 would score off a wild pitch from third base to make it 1-0 in favor of the Purple & Gold. The Soaring Eagles followed with a run in the second inning as
Kaden Bolt '26 legged out an infield single that eventually plated
Connor Stone '26 to make it 2-0.
Marco Macri '26 opened the scoring in the third inning for the Soaring Eagles with a run-scoring single through the right-side that allowed
Matteo Salvati '25 to score and make it 3-0. A two-run double from
Bryan Jimenez '25 increased the advantage to 5-0 for the Purple & Gold before a bunt-single from
Ryan Trenholm '25 pushed the score to 6-0 in the frame. Elmira also plated a pair of runs via wild pitches in the frame along with a fielding error by the Pacers to make it 10-0.
Marywood answered with three runs in the bottom of the third as a two-run home run by the Pacers helped trim the deficit to 10-3. Both sides would plate a run in the fifth inning as
Mason Ryan '22 singled to bring in a run and make it 11-3 before Marywood notched a run-scoring single in the bottom of the frame to make it 11-4.
The seventh inning would see the Soaring Eagles add to their lead as a pair of runs would score via wild pitches, while Salvati was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to push across a run. Elmira closed the scoring in the frame following an RBI groundout from
Nick Lees '25 to make it 15-4. Marywood battled back in the bottom of the frame with a two-run single to make it 15-6.
Stone scored the final run of the contest for the Soaring Eagles off a wild pitch in the top of the eighth inning, while the Pacers added a final run in the ninth inning following a single to right field that made it 16-7.
Bolt paced the Soaring Eagles at the plate with a pair of hits and was one of nine different Elmira batters to record a hit in the contest, while
Logan Pizzullo '25 recorded his first win of the season on the mound after tossing a pair of innings and yielding only one hit.
Kade Cochran '26 tallied five strikeouts through 2.1 innings of relief, while
Matthew Schultz '26 recorded another scoreless outing out of the bullpen for Elmira.

The Soaring Eagles are scheduled to return to Empire 8 Conference action with a three-game series at home against Russell Sage College this weekend at the Holding Point Recreation Center. A doubleheader between the Soaring Eagles and Gators is set for Saturday with a single contest slated for Sunday.
