HORSEHEADS, N.Y. – The Elmira College baseball program made a change on the fly as the Soaring Eagles hosted Hobart College on Wednesday afternoon as the two programs were originally scheduled to play in Geneva after McDonough Park was unplayable due to wet field conditions. It would be the Statesmen coming away with a 20-10 victory in the inaugural meeting against the Soaring Eagles.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Hobart would get onto the scoreboard in the top of the first inning against Elmira starter
Logan Pizzullo '25 as the Statesmen delivered a two-out single to take a 1-0 lead. Hobart added to its lead in the top of the third inning as a grand slam pushed the advantage to 5-0.
The Soaring Eagles answered with some offense in the bottom of the third inning as
Matteo Salvati '25 opened the scoring with a double that allowed
Brett Warden '25 to score and make it 5-1.
Jourdan Plaisted '21 followed with an RBI groundout before
Jacob Parker '25 notched an infield single that allowed Salvati to score and trim the deficit to 5-3.
A five-run fourth inning followed by an eight-run fifth inning opened the lead for the Statesmen, who would increase their advantage to 18-4. Elmira would get its fourth run of the contest via another double from Salvati in the fourth inning that allowed
Kaden Bolt '26 to score.
Jared Money '22 opened a rally for the Purple & Gold in the bottom of the seventh inning with a two-run single to right field that trimmed the deficit to 18-6. Bolt capped the scoring in the frame for Elmira with a two-run single of his own to make it 18-9. Hobart tallied a pair of late runs in the top of the ninth before the Soaring Eagles added a final run in the last of the ninth.
Sean Deaner '26 notched an RBI with a groundout as
Colin McLaughlin '22 scored from third after delivering a triple earlier in the frame.
Pizzullo took the loss for the Purple & Gold despite tossing just the first inning and allowing one run off two hits. Seven pitchers would follow Pizzullo out of the bullpen for the Soaring Eagles as
Kyle Tubbs '22 tossed a pair of scoreless frames while yielding only one hit and recording one strikeout. Salvati finished the contest with three doubles for Elmira at the plate, while Bolt added three hits of his own.
