Soaring Eagles Split Regular Season Finale With Golden Flyers on Saturday Afternoon

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Elmira College Softball team split its regular season final with the Golden Flyers from Nazareth College, dropping game one of the series 6-2 before defeating the opposition 7-4 in game two. 

After being held to just four hits in game one, the Soaring Eagles would go for nine in game two, as Madison Brown-Bloom led the way with four hits and six RBI on the afternoon. Additionally, Asia Curkendall '25 would pick up four hits, while Madison Lodowski '26 earned the win on the mound in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
GAME ONE:

  • The Soaring Eagles were first to jump on the board against Golden Flyer starting pitcher Emily Daciw, as Madison Brown-Bloom '23 delivered an RBI single up the middle, scoring Kaitlyn Belmont '24 and Asia Curkendall '25, who walked and singled to begin the frame, respectively.
  • Soaring Eagle starting pitcher Maryann Sobel '25 would allow an unearned run following an infield error to begin the frame, with Cassidy Hoffmier eventually coming around to score on an RBI groundout as the Golden Flyers trimmed its deficit to 2-1. 
  • After a quiet two innings, the Golden Flyers would score a pair in the bottom of the fourth to take its first lead of the ballgame, using three hits and a Soaring Eagle error to its advantage to take the 3-2 lead. 
  • The Golden Flyers would be back at it on offense in the fifth, as another Elmira error, a single, and a double would lift Sobel from the contest with Jillian Cortez '23 coming on in relief. Following a sacrifice fly with Cortez on the mound, Sobel would finish her afternoon with a final line of 4.1 innings, where she allowed six runs (three earned) on seven hits. In the frame, the Flyers would increase its lead to 6-2, as Cortez would be tabbed for a run in her 1.2 innings of work. 
  • The Soaring Eagle offense was held to just two hits by Daciw in the last six innings, as Nazareth went on to pick up the 6-2 win. 
  • Curkendall would finish with a pair of hits for the Soaring Eagles, while Hannah Flagg '24 and Brown-Bloom collected the other pair of hits, with Brown-Bloom's pair of first inning RBIs serving as the lone for Elmira in the contest. 

GAME TWO:

  • The Soaring Eagles would score three first inning runs against Golden Flyers starting pitcher ?? as Brown-Bloom and Cortez each recorded RBI hits, with Cortez bringing home a pair of runs on her single through the left side. 
  • The Soaring Eagles would see its lead increase to 4-0 in the second inning after Amelia Martin '23 reached on an infield error which brought home Belmont. 
  • From there, the game would go quiet offensively for the next two innings before the Soaring Eagles would strike again in the fifth, scoring three runs on four hits.
  • In the inning, Curkendall and Martin would record back-to-back doubles before Brown-Bloom lifted her first home run of the season to center field, giving Elmira the 7-0 advantage in the contest. 
  • After allowing a pair of walks and a pair of hits in the bottom of the sixth inning, Lodowski's afternoon would come to an end as she finished going 5.1 innings, allowing four runs (all earned) on just two hits, while walking three and striking out one. Cortez would come on in relief, going the final 1.2 innings where she would allow just one hit and pick up her fourth save of the season as Elmira went on the capture the 7-4 victory. 
  • For the game, Brown-Bloom would lead the way with three hits and four RBI, while Curkendall recorded a pair of hits. Additionally, Katie Distefano '24, Arian Wilcox '25, and Cortez, and Martin would record hits to round out the Soaring Eagle offense.
