HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The Elmira College softball program recorded another split in Empire 8 Conference action on Saturday, as the Soaring Eagles dropped game one 10-3 against the Houghton University Highlanders and responded with a 7-1 victory in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Elmira produced a run in the top of the first inning of game one as Hannah Colwill stole second, while Ashlyn VanFleet scored from third on the play to make it 1-0.
- Houghton wouldn't wait long to knot the score and eventually take the lead, as the Highlanders plated four runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Highlanders took a 2-1 lead as they scored on a passed ball.
- Rachel Lunger trimmed the deficit to 4-2 for the Soaring Eagles with a single that scored Asia Curkendall in the second inning.
- Elmira cut the deficit to a single run in the fourth inning as Lunger delivered a sacrifice fly to center field to score Jocelyn Jean and make it 4-3.
- The Highlanders added a run in the fourth inning and five runs in the fifth inning to take a 10-3 lead.
- VanFleet paced Elmira in the game with three hits, while Jean added two hits for the Soaring Eagles.
- In game two, the Soaring Eagles scored three runs in the first inning to jump out to a quick lead against the Highlanders. Jean made it 1-0 with a single as VanFleet scored.
- Sophia Temple made it 3-0 with a single as Jean and Brianna Ramstine both scored, while Katie Distefano followed with a single in the second inning to score Ramstine and make it 4-0.
- Houghton tallied a run in the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly to center field to trim the deficit to 4-1.
- Elmira closed the scoring with three runs in the seventh inning as Temple grounded out to score Distefano and make it 5-1. Lunger followed for the Soaring Eagles with a single to right field, which allowed Colwill and Jordyn Frantz to score and make it 7-1.
- Allie Mienaltowski tossed her second complete game of the season for the Soaring Eagles as she improved to 5-5, while limiting the Highlanders to one run on four hits with a career-high 11 strikeouts.
