Playoff Run for Softball Ends at Nazareth, 5-4

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Despite a rally late in the contest, the Elmira College softball program saw its season come to an end in the first round of the Empire 8 Softball Tournament on Tuesday, as the Soaring Eagles dropped a 5-4 decision against the Nazareth Golden Flyers.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Elmira looked to see if it could get onto the scoreboard first following a lead-off single up the middle from catcher Ashlyn VanFleet.
  • The Soaring Eagles would be unable to scratch across a run after grounding into three consecutive fielders' choices.
  • Nazareth took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as a run scored from third following an error by the Soaring Eagles to extend the frame.
  • The Golden Flyers pushed their lead to 2-0 in the second inning with a solo home run to left field.
  • Elmira rallied to knot the score in the fourth inning as Rachel Lunger reached first on a throwing error, which allowed Brianna Ramstine to score and make it 2-1.
  • Jocelyn Jean followed with a single down the left field line as Hannah Colwill scored to even the score 2-2.
  • Nazareth gained back momentum with three runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by a two-run home run to make it 5-2.
  • The Soaring Eagles would get a home run of their own in the sixth inning, as Jean launched her second of the season over the fence in center field to pull EC to within two runs.
  • Asia Curkendall opened the seventh inning with a triple to right field for Elmira and would later score off a sacrifice fly from Ramstine to make it 5-4. The Soaring Eagles would come up a run short as Colwill flied out to left field to end the game.
  • Allie Mienaltowski took the loss in the circle for the Soaring Eagles after allowing five runs off seven hits through six innings.
