ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Elmira College baseball team traveled to Rochester, NY for a Wednesday afternoon conference matchup against the Cardinals of St. John Fisher University. The Soaring Eagles stumbled in this one, dropping the contest 18-1.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Cardinals struck first in this one, scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the first.
Michael Currao doubled with two outs in the second, but the Soaring Eagles could not bring him around. St. John Fisher added two more runs in the second to extend the advantage to 4-0.
Bobby Cavalier walked to start the third inning but would be left stranded on base. The Cardinals continued to add in the third inning as they scored seven more runs, pushing themselves in front 11-0.
Brady Buttice launched a ball over the wall for a solo homer in the fourth inning to get the Soaring Eagles on the board. The Cardinals responded by scoring three more runs and taking a 14-1 advantage.
Xander Canfield singled in sixth inning, but Elmira failed to score any runs in the frame. St. John Fisher added four more runs in the sixth, making the score 18-1. Jadyn Wagner walked to lead off the seventh but was erased on a double play to end the game, Elmira falling in this one 18-1.
LEADERS
Offensively, Buttice led the way, going 1-3 with a solo home run. Currao went 1-2 at the plate, including a double. Canfield was 1-3 in the contest. Wagner walked in his only plate appearance.
