Elmira Athletics Announces Hiring of Malorie Stockwell as Women's Lacrosse Head Coach

Elmira, N.Y. - Elmira College Director of Athletics Rhonda Faunce has announced the hiring of Malorie Stockwell as the next Head Women's Lacrosse Coach. A former two-year captain and standout goalkeeper for the Soaring Eagles, Stockwell returns to Elmira with extensive collegiate coaching experience and a proven background in building programs, developing student-athletes, recruiting, and establishing strong team cultures.

"Having played at Elmira, I know firsthand the pride and tradition that comes with wearing the purple and gold," Stockwell said. "I am incredibly excited to help bring that level of success and excitement back to this program. I want to honor the traditions that made Elmira special while building a culture of players who love the game, compete for each other, and understand that the standards and success of this program are something we all have a responsibility to carry forward!"

Stockwell's coaching career began at Elmira, where she returned as a student assistant in 2010 and worked primarily with the goalkeepers and defensive unit. She later served as a graduate assistant at LaGrange College from 2010 to 2012, gaining additional experience in recruiting, player development, and day-to-day athletic department operations. Her coaching background also includes experience with Team Crease Lacrosse Club, Liverpool High School and Middle School, King's Fork High School, and Camp Laurel, along with additional experience in youth lacrosse, camps, clinics, goalkeeper development, and defensive development.

"We are thrilled to welcome Stockwell back to Elmira College," said Faunce. "Her connection, combined with her extensive coaching experience and background in building programs, makes her an excellent fit to lead our women's lacrosse program. She understands what it means to wear the Soaring Eagles uniform, and her experience developing student-athletes and establishing strong team cultures will be invaluable as she leads our program forward."

She continued her coaching path, most recently serving as the Head Women's Lacrosse Coach at Davis & Elkins College from 2016 to 2018. During her first season, she coached four All-Conference and three All-Freshman selections, including Freshman of the Year Lydia Eichhorst. The program also earned the school's Engagement Pillar recognition after averaging 21.06 community-service hours per student-athlete during the 2016-17 academic year.

Stockwell also made a stop at the University of Pikeville from 2014 to 2016 where she helped transition the program from club to varsity competition and coached the program's inaugural varsity season. She also led the NWLL South All-Star Team and coached two student-athletes selected to the NWLL All-Star Game, including Shelby Campbell, Pikeville's first NWLL Honorable Mention All-American, and Taylor Bussell, an NAIA Second Team All-Conference selection and NWLL Academic All-American. She also helped co-author the inaugural NAIA Women's Lacrosse Handbook.

As a player, Stockwell was a standout goalkeeper for the Soaring Eagles from 2004 to 2008, serving as a two-year team captain. She was named Elmira College Rookie of the Year for the 2004-05 season and Defensive Player of the Year for the 2005-06 season. She was a two-time Second Team All-Conference honors selection and a All-Empire 8 Honorable Mention. while She was named Empire 8 Goalie of the Week six different times and was ranked sixth nationally in NCAA Division III in save percentage in 2006.
