Willer Tallies Three Points against Curry in 4-4 OT Tie

Milton, MA The Soaring Eagles Men's Hockey team played the Colonels of Curry College to a 4-4 OT tie.  The game featured the number 6 nationally ranked Soaring Eagles and last year's ECAC Northeast Champions Curry College.

EC got things started at the 16:10 mark in the first period as Kevin Willer '12 (Toronto, ONT -- North York Rangers, OPJHL) would produce a goal to put Elmira ahead 1-0.  Darcy Vaillancourt '12 (Bonfield, ONT -- Innisfil Lakers, GMJHL) and Brendan Sanders '12 (Mississauga, ONT -- Vaughan Vipers, OPJHL) would register assists on the game opening goal.  Curry College would answer back with a goal of their own just two minutes later to even the game at one.

Curry would take a quick 2-1 lead as they scored just 50 seconds into the second period.  EC would answer right back as Willer would notch his second goal of the contest.  His goal would come at the 2:07 mark while playing with a man-down.  Sanders would tally an assist on the shorthanded goal.  Elmira's Wes Consorti '12 (Brantford, ONT -- Niagara University) would break the 2-2 at the 11:03 mark with his second goal of the season.  Dylan Herold '14 (Delta, BC -- Burnaby Express, BCHL) earned an assist on the goal.  After a string of penalties a little over a minute after the EC goal, the Colonels would tally a power-play goal to tie the game back at 3-3.  The game would remain at three a piece going into the third period.

The Soaring Eagles would find themselves in prime position to score as Curry would pick up two penalties at the 2:35 and 3:18 marks.  Third year standout Vaillancourt would put Elmira ahead with a 6-on-4 power-play opportunity at the 3:46 mark.  Karl Linden '11 (Stockholm, Sweden -- Bradford Rattlers, GMJHL) and Willer would tally assists on the goal.  As the period progressed it seemed as though Elmira would hang on to the lead but the Colonels had different plans as they scored a power-play goal of their own at the 13:22 mark in the third period.  The game would remain scoreless for the remainder of regulation.

In the overtime period Curry would out-shoot Elmira 5-1 but would fail to produce any goals.  The game would end in a 4-4 OT tie, bringing Elmira's overall record to 3-3-1.  EC goalie Darren MacDonald '13 (Stittsville, ONT -- Nepean Raiders, CJHL) made 36 saves in 65 minutes of action.  Elmira would look to bounce back from a tough weekend as they travel to take on ECAC West foe Hobart College.  Face-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Geneva, NY.
