Men's Ice Hockey Closes Weekend Series with Chatham

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Elmira College men's hockey team remained in Pittsburgh Saturday afternoon to close their UCHC series with Chatham University. The Soaring Eagles hit the board first but missed the mark against the Cougars, 5-1.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Soaring Eagles were first to hit the board with an even strength goal from Corbin Melie, seeing Nicholas Bennett pick up the assist. Elmira was able to keep the Cougars at bay until they netted the tying goal at 11:39 in the first period in a power-play opportunity. Both teams were evenly matched in the first quarter, but the Cougars still outshot EC nine to seven.

Entering the second period, Elmira looked to take the lead and was seen outshooting the Cougars 17-7. EC was able to hold the Cougars at bay with Avery Rovira-Hewett recording four saves. Chatham broke loose and netted two goals in the span of three minutes for a 3-1 lead at the end of the second period.

In the final period of play, Elmira once again outshot the Cougars 20-6 but was to no avail as Chatham added two to their lead. In a power-play opportunity, Chatham was seen netting their fourth goal of the afternoon at the 14-minute mark. With a 4-1 lead, Chatham sealed the deal with their fifth and final goal in the last two minutes of play to leave EC behind (5-1).
