Purchase, NY – The Elmira College Men's Hockey team fell down two goals early but erupted for five goals in the second period to soar past Manhattanville 6-3 Saturday night in Purchase.
Kevin Willer '12 (Toronto, ONT -- North York Rangers) registered an astonishing four scores to lead Elmira to a come from behind victory. The win improves the Soaring Eagles to 2-2-0 overall and 2-0-0 in ECAC West play; while the loss drops the Valiants to 0-2-0 overall and 0-2-0 in conference play.
EC fell behind early as Manhattanville scored two times in the first 13 minutes of the game. The Purple and Gold responded to score with two minutes left in the period as
D'Arcy Oakes '13 (Shanty Bay, ONT -- Quinnipiac University) scored off a feed from
Brendan Sanders '12 (Mississauga, ONT -- Vaughan Vipers).
Elmira carried momentum into the second period as less than 30 seconds in
Willer lit the lamp on the power play with
Martin Lee '12 (Toronto, ONT -- Vaughan Vipers) and
Darcy Vaillancourt '12 (Bonfield, ONT -- Innisfil Lakers) registering assists on the score. Six minutes later the Valiants notched a man-advantage goal of their own when Scott Hudson tallied his second score of the game. One minute later
Willer scored again to tie the game at three off a feed from
Vaillancourt. Less than 10 minutes later the combo swapped roles as
Vaillancourt tallied his first score of the season off feeds from
Willer and
Brock Sawyer'12 (Toronto, ONT -- Powell River Kings). Elmira tallied its fifth goal of the second period and
Willer notched a hat trick with his third goal in two periods.
Vaillancourt and
Sanders registered assists on the marker.
Up 5-3 EC held the Valiants scoreless for the final 33 minutes of play. The Soaring Eagles added an insurance score with just under four to play as
Willer registered an unassisted goal to seal the win.
Darren MacDonald '13 (Stittsville, ONT -- Nepean Raiders) stopped 30 shots in net, while Pierre Oliver Lemieux made 37 saves for the Valiants. Elmira returns to action Saturday Nov. 12
