Henrietta, NY – The Elmira College Women's Ice Hockey team lost a tough conference game to the Tigers of Rochester Institute of Technology, 5-1, on Friday evening. The win improves the Tigers to 20-1-1 overall and 12-1-1 in ECAC West play, while the loss drops the Soaring Eagles to 18-3-1 overall and 11-2-0 in conference competition.
Late in the first period the Tigers tallied the first score with Lindsay Grigg scoring the goal, while Morgan Scoyne and Erin Zach recorded the assists. The score stood 1-0 at the end of the period with EC looking to respond in the second. However, 2:11 into the second period RIT capitalized on another opportunity. Scoring the goal was Kolbee McCrea with Grigg and Marissa Maugrel tallying the assists. Around 10 minutes later the Tigers scored another goal to stretch their lead to 3-0. Just one minute later RIT scored again to go up 4-0. The game would stay 4-0 at the end of the period with the Soaring Eagles not knowing how to respond to the relentless Tiger attack.
In the third period RIT added what would be its final goal of the game at the 17:09 mark with McCrea recording her second goal of the night. Assisting on the play were Kim Schlattman and Kourtney Kunichika. EC was able to salvage a goal with 44 seconds to play, but that was all the offense the Soaring Eagles could muster against the RIT goaltender, Laura Chamberlain. Scoring the power-play goal was
Madison Johnston '13 (Toronto, ONT -- Toronto Aeros) with
Lindsay Mitchell '12 (Arnold, MD -- NAHA) and
Erin Weston '15 (Ajax, ONT – Etobicoke Dolphins) tallying the assists.
