Hoboken, NJ – The Elmira College Men's Basketball team fell on the road at host Stevens, 71-60, Friday evening in Hoboken. The win improves the Ducks to 16-4 overall and 7-2 in Empire 8 competition, while the loss drops the Soaring Eagles to 0-21 overall and 0-9 in conference competition.
Stevens led 12-4 after the first five minutes of play, but over the next 10 minutes Elmira went on a 20-12 run to tie the game at 24 all. The Ducks closed the half on a 6-2 run to take a 33-29 advantage into the break.
Dan O'Brien '14 (Oneonta, NY -- Oneonta) led EC with eight points in the opening period, while Simon Smith tallied 11 points for Stevens.
The Ducks opened up an eight point lead out of the break before EC battled back to come within one, at 43-42, with 14 minutes remaining. From that point Stevens took control of the game, blossoming its lead to as many as 15, prevailing 71-60.
Elmira finished with three players in double figures as
O'Brien and
Neil Randolph '14 (Wicklow, Ireland -- Presentation) finished with 14 points, while
Chris Cassidy '14 (Colts Neck, NJ -- Colts Neck) added 10 points. The Ducks saw four players place in double figures in scoring, as Sheldon Jones (18), Simon Smith (18), Russ Thompson (15), and Matt Skrelja (10) accomplished the feat. Smith and Skrelja also tallied double-doubles with 14 and 10 rebounds, respectively.
The Elmira College Men's Basketball team returns to action tomorrow when it takes on host Hartwick College at 4:00 p.m.
