All-Tournament Team
Neil Randolph '15 had a quality opening weekend for the Soaring Eagles, averaging 16.5 points on 47.8 percent shooting during the two games at the NYU Tip-Off Tournament. Randolph also knocked down six three pointers at a 43 percent clip while averaging 29 minutes per game. For his play throughout the weekend, Randolph was named to the NYU Tip-Off All-Tournament team, EC's lone representative.
Big Man on Campus
David Borelli '15 had a coming out party on Sunday against Drew University as he set career highs in points and rebounds, recording his first career double-double. The big man from Rochester, NY led all EC players with 19 points and 14 rebounds as he and the Soaring Eagles nearly pulled off the victory over the Rangers, falling 70-68 in the final seconds.
Keys From Downtown!
Josh Keys '14 had a torrid start to his 2013-14 campaign as his hot shooting from behind the arc nearly produced an Elmira College upset of the number 20 nationally ranked Morrisville State Mustangs. Keys hit eight of 14 three point attempts for all 24 of his points. The eight three pointers eclipsed his previous career high of seven, which he set in the 2011-12 season, and was the highest number of made three-point baskets by an Elmira College player in over 13 years.
He's Our Ironman
Derrick Vogel '14 is continuing right where he left off the 2012-13 season, playing as many minutes as he possibly can. After averaging 35.6 minutes per game a season ago, Vogel played 67 of a possible 80 minutes, for an average of 33.5, over the weekend's two games at the NYU Tip-Off Tournament.
Just Pull the Trigger
The early returns on Coach Torgalski's new, uptempo offensive system may not have been all that positive since the Soaring Eagles did not get a win at the NYU Tip-Off, but EC has not been shy about taking open shots. The Purple and Gold shot 66 three-pointers over the weekend, 33 more than their opponents. The 37 three-pointers attempted against Morrisville State were the most three-point attempts in a game by an EC team since November 15, 2011 when the Soaring Eagles hoisted 38 threes against Cortland State.
Coach Torgalski vs. Cortland
Head Coach
Randie Torgalski has not had much success against Cortland State since he arrived on campus in 2008 as his Soaring Eagles have fallen victim to the Red Dragons each of the three times they have played each other since the 2008-09 season.
