Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College men's basketball team is looking to make it two wins in a row when they host St. Lawrence University on Friday, January 17th. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at Speidel Gymnasium.
45-Point Outburst
The Purple and Gold exploded for 45 points in the first half of their win over Houghton College. Keys' six first-half three-pointers set the tone offensively as the Soaring Eagles opened up a 14 point lead at the half. The 45 first-half points is the most EC has scored in an opening half this season and matches the season-high for points in a half (Hilbert College and Fredonia State). The last time an Elmira team scored 45 points in a first half was December 30, 2005 when the men dropped 47 first-half points against Washington & Jefferson College.
Dynamic Duo
Neil Randolph '15 and
Josh Keys '14 exploded for 21 points apiece in Tuesday's win over Houghton College, the third time this season that the duo recorded 20 or more points in the same game. Elmira holds a 2-1 record in those games, with their only blemish coming in the season opener against No. 20 Morrisville State, 81-75.
Super Sub
Jake Metcalf '15 has emerged as one of Coach Torgalski's top options off the bench after averaging 12 points per game in his previous two contests while shooting nearly 92 percent from the floor.
No. 1 in Sight
Josh Keys '14 hit an impressive seven three-pointers in the game against Houghton, upping his career total three-pointers made to 222. With 222 career threes, Keys is moving ever closer to becoming Elmira's all-time leader trailing EC's all-time leader, Ryan Bennett '01, by 27 made three-pointers.
Key Matchup
The Saints have excelled in limiting opponents from hitting from the outside this season, while the Soaring Eagles have been a strong shooting team from behind the arc for most of the season. St. Lawrence is allowing only 31.6 percent of three-point shots to drop on the year, however, they have allowed 42.3 percent of opponent's threes to fall over the last three games. EC averages 7.2 three-pointers per game, knocking down 33.6 percent of those shots from behind the arc.
