Men’s Basketball Caps Off Season With Loss To Hartwick

Oneonta, NY -- The Elmira College men's basketball team (10-15, 5-9 E8) fell to Hartwick College (16-9, 10-4 E8), 81-64 today. The Soaring Eagles were led by Chris Cassidy '14 who posted 13 points, six rebounds, two assists, one block, and one steal in the loss.

Elmira started the game off on a 4-0 run but the Hawks responded with a 19-4 run of their own to take an 11-point lead. The Soaring Eagles spent the rest of the half playing catch-up, but Hartwick would go into the locker rooms with a 43-26 lead. Cassidy lead the men going into halftime with eight points, three rebounds, and one steal.

EC tried to regroup in the second half, and came out strong as they started with five quick points, but the Soaring Eagles' could not overcome the Hawks defensive pressure as the Purple and Gold only made 36.1 percent of their shots leading to the 81-64 defeat. Josh Keys '14 and Derrick Vogel '14 led the EC men in the second half with eight points apiece.

In addition to Cassidy, Derrick Vogel '14 and Josh Keys '14 turned in solid performances in their final games in the Purple and Gold. Vogel finished with 11 points, four assists, and two rebounds. He will finish his career with 290 total career assists, ranking him seventh all-time in EC history. Keys, who played in his 100th consecutive game today, added eight pints, two rebounds, and one steal while going 2-for-6 from beyond the arc. The two made three-pointers ups his season total to 73, which matches his career-high for made threes in a season, which he set in the 2011-12 season. The 73 threes ties him for third most in a season in EC history while he will leave Elmira as the best three-point shooter all-time having made 259 in his career.

Capping off an impressive junior season was Neil Randolph '15 who turned in nine points, two rebounds, and two assists in 28 minutes of action. The Wicklow, Ireland native had a breakout season, leading EC with 18.4 points per game. That average will go down as the seventh best single-season scoring average in EC history. Randolph scored his points in a variety of ways as he made 57 three-pointers, the 10th most in a single season, and 118 free throws, which is the fifth most makes in a single season.

This game marks the last contest of the season for the Soaring Eagles.
