Houghton, NY -- Gabe Carmona '18 stopped a career-high 16 shots under the lights at Burke Field in Houghton, NY, the most saves made by an Elmira goalkeeper in five years. Unfortunately, Carmona's career night was not enough as the Soaring Eagles fell in Empire 8 action to Houghton College, 2-0.

Elmira nearly took an early lead in tonight's game, as Amy Sullivan '18 put a shot on target from just about 30 yards out. Sullivan's attempt at the 1:58 mark of the first half almost found the back of the net but Houghton's Shawna Sprout was able to get a glove on the ball, making the save just inches under the crossbar to keep things scoreless.

Less than six minutes later, Houghton's Sarah Gabriele put the Highlanders ahead 1-0 with her first of two goals. Gabriele knocked-in one other in the 43rd minute of the game to give the Highlanders a 2-0 lead.

The Soaring Eagles looked to equalize, as EC put four of their game's five shots on target. However, Elmira was unable to break through for the score, as Houghton marched away with a 2-0 conference win.

Turning Point
Gabriele's goal in the 8th minute was ultimately the difference maker in tonight's contest. Elmira has surrendered a goal in the first 10 minutes of three games this season, with all three contests resulting in EC losses.
