Rousselle’s Double OT Tally Powers Women’s Soccer Past Alfred State

Score: Elmira College 1 – Alfred State University 0
Records: Elmira (3-9), Alfred State (7-5-1)
Location: Pioneer Stadium – Alfred, NY

Alfred, NY -- Jordyn Rousselle '18 tallied a game-winning goal in the 103rd minute to push the Elmira College women's soccer team to a thrilling 1-0 double-overtime victory over Alfred State University at a frigid Pioneer stadium.

Amy Sullivan '18 created the game-winning goal with an excellent play to send Rousselle one-on-one on Alfred State keeper Allison Danielak. The second-year midfielder slipped a beautiful through-ball into space behind the Pioneer backline. Rousselle sprinted onto it and calmly ripped a shot inside the post, before being mobbed by her teammates.

The goal was a just reward for Elmira, as they dominated possession for vast stretches during the contest. The Soaring Eagles doubled the Pioneers in shots during the first half, but were unable to find the breakthrough.

The Purple and Gold continued to up the offensive pressure in the second half. It was a shooting barrage for Elmira, as the team sent 13 shot attempts, including nine on net, but Danielak stood tall in the Alfred State net to force overtime.

The Pioneers nearly stole the victory in the first overtime session. Julia Yanarella fired the only shot of the first overtime period; however, Gabe Carmona '18 showcased her sure hands to corral the ball to neutralize the threat.

The Soaring Eagles got back on the front foot, as the teams changed sides for the second overtime session, setting the stage for Rousselle's golden goal.

Turning Point
Regaining momentum following a somewhat tentative opening frame of overtime, the Soaring Eagles gained possession in the attacking third. Sullivan sent a beautiful pass to Rousselle, who made no mistakes in burying it into the back of the net.
