Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College women's soccer team suffered a 4-0 setback at the hands of the 25th-ranked Ithaca College Bombers on Tuesday afternoon at Campus Field.

While the visitors finished with a significant advantage in shot attempts, 27-to-13, the first half was much closer, only 12-to-10, as the Soaring Eagles found chances to put the ball on target. Unfortunately for the Soaring Eagles, however, those shots could not find their way past Ithaca senior keeper Beth Coppolecchia.

EC had two early chances to take the lead before Ithaca tallied the opening goal. In the first minute, Courtney Burgazli '16 put a shot on goal, but it was stopped by Coppolecchia. In the eight minute, Niki Lemper '17 sent a shot towards the net on a free kick. When it left her foot, it looked awfully familiar to her first goal against St. John Fisher College on September 23rd, but once again, Coppolecchia was present for the easy save. Kimi Girmus '16 kept the pressure on the opposition when she tried to head in a Burgazli corner kick in the 16th minute, but her shot bounced high and wide of the net.

The Bombers opened the scoring in the ninth minute, as senior Sara Woychick lofted a high shot just over the fingertips of Elmira goalkeeper Gabe Carmona '18 from outside the box. In a similar fashion, senior Kelsey King - the team's leading scorer - extended the cushion to two goals in the 20th minute.

In the 33rd minute, junior Jocelyn Ravesi gathered a blocked King shot attempt inside the box and tapped it into the bottom left corner past a diving Carmona, making it a three-goal Ithaca lead. King used an outstanding individual effort to weave through multiple EC defenders to get an open shot in the 50th minute. From the middle of the field, she worked her way into the right side of the box, where she stopped and rifled shot past Carmona for her second goal of the game.

Carmona made seven of her nine stops in the second half. One of her best saves came in the 49th minute, when she dove to her left to catch a piece of a shot from King, pushing it wide of the goal. The second-year keeper made another diving stop in the 53rd minute to deny Ithaca's Jess Demczar.
