Oneonta, NY -- On day two of the Hartwick/Holiday Inn Tournament, the Elmira College women's volleyball team split a pair of non-conference matches with Union College and SUNY Delhi. Elmira concludes tournament play by going 1-3 at the event.
EC began the day with a 3-0 loss to Union, who received votes in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) national coaches poll. After a slow start in the first set, Elmira rallied in the second and third sets but was unable to take control of the match, as the Dutchwomen claimed a straight set win.
It looked as though the Purple and Gold were going depart from Oneonta winless after dropping the first two sets to SUNY Delhi. However, after a slow start on offense, Elmira's hitting vastly improved in the following three sets, as EC rallied to claim a 3-2 victory over the Broncos.
Individual Leaders (Union) Individual Leaders (SUNY Delhi)- Ashley Heiman '16 and Paola Ortiz '16 led EC's offense with double digit kills, 13 and 11, respectively.
- Kaznowski paced the EC attack with 30 assists and a team-high six service aces.
- Four EC players totaled 10 or more digs, with Ross leading the way with 20.
News and Notes- Elmira concludes tournament play with a 1-3 record.
- Elmira produced a season-high 18 service aces against SUNY Delhi.
- Additionally, Elmira's 18 aces is its highest single-match total since September 26, 2010, when the Soaring Eagles logged 19 against Alfred University.
- The Soaring Eagles also registered a season-high 79 digs against SUNY Delhi.
- Elmira's five-set win is its second of the season.
- The Purple and Gold's rally from two sets down is the first time EC has come back from an 0-2 hole since October 29, 2011, when Elmira bounced back for a five set win after dropping the first two against Ramapo College.
