College Hockey Stats Box Score

Pine Valley, NY --
Five different players scored goals this evening as the No. 1 nationally ranked Elmira College women's ice hockey team (22-1-1, 17-0-0 ECACW) picked up a 6-0 win against No. 9 Oswego State (18-5-1, 12-4-1 ECACW).  Elmira's win snapped Oswego's seven-game win streak and increased EC's win streak to 13 games, the longest active win streak in the country, and the Soaring Eagles' unbeaten streak to 16, also the longest active streak in the nation.

12 different Elmira skaters logged points in the win, headlined by Cassidy Delainey '15 and her three point night which came on two goals and one assist.  Of Delainey's two goals, one was scored on the power play, increasing her season total to 15 power-play goals, which not only is an NCAA Division III Women's Ice Hockey Record but is also the most scored by any player across all divisions of college hockey this season.

Phoebe Piku '16 and Ashley Ryan '15 were Elmira's only other multi-point performers as they both finished with two points on one goal and one assist apiece.  Elmira's starting netminder, Kyle Nelson '17, picked up her 12th win of the season as she made 13 saves in 60 minutes of action.  For Nelson, today's shutout win is her second shutout of the season and third of her two-year EC career.

Elmira flexed their muscle in the early goings of today's game, especially in the first period, as the Soaring Eagles outshot the Lakers 22-to-4.  EC's hefty shot advantage paid off as the Purple and Gold jumped out to a 3-0 lead, with all three goals being scored in the game's first 10 minutes.

Phoebe Piku '16 scored the first of three Elmira goals just 2:06 into the first period.  Louisa Lippiatt Durnell '18 created the scoring opportunity, as she forced a turnover behind the Oswego net before sending a pass to Piku in the slot where she one-timed it in for the score.

Less than five minutes later, Olivia Nystrom '16 put Elmira ahead 2-0 with her seventh goal of the season. After receiving a pass from Cassidy Delainey '15 in the neutral zone, Nystrom carried the puck into Oswego's defensive zone where she would attempt to send a pass back to Delainey in the slot.  However, Nystrom's pass would deflect off of an Oswego defender and make its way into the net for EC's second goal of the contest.

Elmira scored their final goal of the period at the 9:27 mark as the nation's leading point scorer, Ashley Ryan '15, scored her 15th goal of the year to put EC ahead 3-0.  Ryan's goal was scored on the rush as she split a pair of defenders before beating Oswego's Bridget Smith on the blocker-side.  Classmate Sydney Fischer '17 and Anna Tude '17 were credited with assists on Elmira's final goal of the period.

The second period looked very similar to the first as Elmira continued to dominate in the shots department, outshooting Oswego 14-to-3.  Erin Weston '15 put Elmira ahead 4-0 at the 4:58 mark of the period, as she buried a wrist shot top shelf on a breakaway.  The scoring opportunity was created by rookie defenseman Erin Kishoni '18, whose pass from deep within Elmira's defensive zone found Weston at Oswego's blue line, giving Weston a one-on-one opportunity that she would take advantage of by scoring her eighth goal of the season. Kishoni and Lindsay Burrows '15 picked up assists on the goal.

It looked as though Elmira was going to carry a 4-0 lead into the final intermission but the nation's leading power-play scorer, Delainey, had other plans as her man-up goal with 21 seconds remaining in the period put the Soaring Eagles ahead, 5-0.  Elmira worked the power play to perfection as a pair of passes by Brooke Wilgosh '15 and Ryan freed up space for Delainey in the lower slot, allowing Delainey to backhand the puck into the net for EC's fifth goal of the night.  Both Wilgosh and Ryan tallied assists on the final goal of the second period.

In the third, Elmira tallied their sixth goal of the afternoon at the 5:20 mark, putting the game completely out of reach.  Scoring Elmira's final goal of the night was Delainey, her second of the evening.  After receiving a long pass from Piku, Rachel Grampp '18 carried the puck into Oswego's defensive zone before launching a shot towards net.  Delainey would sneak in front of Grampp's shot, redirecting it through the five-hole for her 20th goal of the season.  Both Piku and Grampp picked up assists on Delainey's second goal of the contest.

Elmira concludes the 2014-15 regular season tomorrow, when the Soaring Eagles host No. 9 Oswego State in a 3:00 p.m.  Tomorrow's game will also be Class of 2015 Recognition Day, as Elmira honors their seven graduating seniors.

Additionally, Elmira will be looking to make history tomorrow as they have the chance to finish with a perfect 18-0-0 conference record, which would be just the fourth time in ECAC West Conference history and the first time since the league expanded past seven teams.  The last time an ECAC West Conference team finished with a perfect record dates back to 2005-06 when Plattsburgh State finished the regular season with a 12-0-0 conference record.
