Rochester, NY -- The No. 15 Elmira College men's volleyball team (9-6) defeated Medaille College (1-7) 3-2 in the first match of the day and then took down Wells College (4-6) to finish the Golden Flyer Tournament with a perfect 4-0 record. As the only team to finish the tournament with a flawless record, EC took home first place in the tournament.

Erik Griffin '15 were all named to the All-Tournament Team for their efforts over the weekend. Faccio was also named the Tournament MVP.
Match One Recap
Elmira 3, Medaille 2 – 28-30, 19-25, 25-25, 19-7Both teams battled in the first set and were deadlocked at 27-27 late.
Felix Garcia Ramos '16 recorded a kill to put the Purple and Gold up, 28-27, however, the Mavericks closed the set with three straight points to win, 30-28.
Medaille took an early 12-7 lead in the second set that forced an Elmira timeout. After the break, both teams traded points the rest of the set as neither team would score more than two points in a row for the rest of the set. The Mavericks went on to hold off the Soaring Eagles, 25-19 to take a 2-0 set lead.
Deadlocked at 2-2 in the third set, Elmira's offense started clicking as the Purple and Gold went on a 13-3 run to take a 15-5 lead. The Mavericks battled the rest of the set, however, EC's early lead proved too much as the Soaring Eagles won the third set, 25-12.
Elmira kept the momentum on their side during the fourth set, as EC didn't allow Medaille to get more than two points in a row against them. When the Purple and Gold were up 22-16, the EC men closed out the set with a 5-1 run to win 25-17 and tie the match, 2-2.
Both teams traded points early in the fifth set as the neither team would take a lead higher than three points in the set. With the scored tied at 11-11, the Mavericks went on a 3-1 run to take a 14-12 lead, one point away from winning the match. The pressure did not get to Elmira as the Purple and Gold scored the next three points to take a 15-14 lead. However, Medaille would score the next point to tie the set up at 15-15. Elmira then scored the next point to take a 16-15 lead after a Mavericks service error. Medaille then scored the next two points to lead 17-16, however,
Erik Griffin '16 would tally a kill to tie the game back up at 17-17. The Purple and Gold then took advantage of two attacking errors by the Mavericks to win 19-17 in the deciding fifth set and win the match, 3-2.
Griffin led offensively with a match-high 26 points while Faccio set up the offense with 48 assists. Griffin and Shade led defensively with nine digs apiece in the win while Faccio was right behind them with six.

Elmira 3, Wells 1 – 22-15, 25-18, 25-21, 25-19 The Express started the first set with an 11-6 run that was answered by Elmira who scored four straight points to make it 11-10. Both teams battled the rest of the set but it would be Wells coming out on top, 25-22.
Wells started the second set off strong again, using a 5-2 run. The Purple and Gold responded with a 5-0 run to lead 7-5. Both teams traded points until the Purple and Gold, leading 21-17, closed the set off with a 4-1 run to win, 25-18.
Trailing 5-3 in the third set, the Soaring Eagles regrouped and took a 12-6 lead. Wells battled back and trailed EC 22-20 late in the set. Elmira then closed the third set off with a 3-1 run to win 25-21 and take a 2-1 set lead.
Elmira started the fourth set off strong with an 8-3 run. The Express then regrouped and went on a 12-5 run to take a 15-13 lead. The Purple and Gold then went on to tally a 7-0 run, causing a Wells timeout. After the short break, EC went on a 5-4 run to win the fourth set, 25-19, and the match, 3-1.
Mark Kawecki '17 led offensively with 15 kills while Faccio set up the attack with 43 assists. Shade led on the defensive end of the floor with 10 digs.
The Soaring Eagles will compete next on February 15th when the EC men host one of three UVC Crossovers next weekend. The Purple and Gold will face New York University at 11:00 a.m. and then Vassar College at 4:00 p.m.
