Elmira, NY -- After playing the Cardinals of Plattsburgh State to a 0-0 halftime score, the Elmira College women's soccer team would surrender four goals in a seven-minute span, which would ultimately lead to a 4-0 loss at Campus Field.
The first half was a competitive one, despite a 14-to-9 advantage in shots for Plattsburgh. Plattsburgh's edge in shots nearly paid off in the first 15 minutes, when Mercedes Kendall rifled a shot towards goal that looked like it was going to beat an outstretched
Amanda Banner '17. However, Kendall's shot missed wide left, keeping the game at 0-0 through the early-going.
Elmira nearly got on the board in the 24th minute, when
Katie D'Amico '16 fired a shot on goal only to see Plattsburgh keeper Nichole Gibson mishandle the ball. The loose ball found its way to
Lindsay Proulx '18, who nearly poked a shot past Gibson, but the Cardinal netminder would smother the ball to keep the game tied.
With the first half coming to a close, Elmira had another golden opportunity to seize control of today's game when a shot by
Kerri Clark '18 was saved but not controlled, leaving a loose ball in the box. From there,
Jordyn Rousselle '18 got her foot on the ball and lifted it over top of a sprawled out Plattsburgh keeper. Unfortunately, Rousselle's shot caromed off the post and back into play as the game remained tied at 0-0.
Turning PointUp until Plattsburgh's first goal, Elmira had been playing the Cardinals fairly even, as possession time was just about split between the two sides. However, from the 47:55 mark until 54:50, the Cardinals would strike for four goals, which would all but seal today's victory.
