Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College men's basketball team suffered its second conference loss of the season at the hands of St. John Fisher College tonight, 71-58.
Justin Porrett '19 led Elmira with a team-high 11 points, while
John Mullane '16 added eight points as well as six rebounds and four assists, both of which were team highs.
Elmira played Fisher very tight in the first half, as neither team led by more than eight points. The Soaring Eagles held leads on three different occasions in the game's opening six minutes, but a three-minute 10-0 run gave Fisher its largest lead of the half at the 11:10 mark, 18-10.
The Fisher lead hovered around five points for the remaining 11 minutes and would eventually turn into a 35-28 halftime lead. Elmira's Porrett paced the Soaring Eagles in the first half with seven points on 3-of-3 shooting from the field.
Fisher opened the second stanza with a 7-0 run to take a 15-point lead in the half's opening two minutes. The Soaring Eagles attempted to peck away at the Cardinal lead but Fisher would go up by as many as 18 points in the second half en route to a 71-58 victory.
Turning PointElmira trailed by just seven points at the halftime break, but the opening two minutes of the second half changed the momentum of tonight's game drastically. The Cardinals opened the second half on a 7-0 run, much of that having to do with three Elmira turnovers in that time, which led to a 15-point Fisher lead at 43-28. Fisher never relinquished its double-digit lead in the second half.
Inside the Box Score- Elmira went 22-for-54 from the field (40.7%), while Fisher was 26-for-55 (47.3%).
- EC knocked down eight three-pointers on 8-of-23 shooting (34.8%).
