ITHACA, N.Y. -- Fourth-year midfielder
Niki Lemper '17 tallied her first goal of the season for the Elmira College women's soccer team during Tuesday's 8-1 road loss to Ithaca College at Carp Wood Field.
Lemper was responsible for one of two EC shots on goal in the opening half, but her attempt in the 39th minute was saved by Ithaca goalie Stacey DiGiorgio. Over the following minute, she entered a pair of corner kicks, the latter which produced a shot from
Lindsay Proulx '18, but DiGiorgio was once again there to keep the Soaring Eagles off of the board in the first half.
The Bombers, on the other hand, scored five times in the first half to take a commanding lead into the break.
Trailing by eight heading into the final 10 minutes of regulation, Lemper showed off her powerful boot while tallying her fourth career goal. The senior from Townsend, Delaware, ripped a long-range shot from nearly 35 yards out that sailed over the head of IC's backup keeper, Sara Jakobsze, but just under the crossbar and into the back of the net.
The goal from Lemper rejuvenated the Elmira offense for the remainder of the contest, as the Soaring Eagles registered three more shots in the final six minutes.
Sara Kazerouni '18 nearly scored in the 89th minute, but the ball ricocheted off of the post. Moments later,
Maddie Miller '17 sent one high over the crossbar.
Turning Point
The Bombers wasted little time before taking the lead, as Jocelyn Ravesi netted the first of her game-high four goals just over nine minutes into the contest. However, it was a 10-minute span, beginning in the 17th minute, which sealed the deal for Ithaca in the first half. The hosts scored thrice in that span, with two more coming from Ravesi, to establish a dominate lead and erase any hopes of an EC comeback.
