ELMIRA, N.Y. -- Torrential downpour in the Southern Tier yielded sloppy playing conditions for the Elmira College women's soccer team, as the Soaring Eagles welcomed Nazareth College to Campus Field for an Empire 8 Conference contest. Elmira held the Golden Flyers scoreless through the first 45 minutes of today's game, but second-half lapse proved to be the difference, as Nazareth marched away with a 4-0 victory.

The rainy conditions played a large factor in the first half, as both teams struggled to maintain possession for extended periods of time. Nazareth outshot Elmira 9-to-2 in the first half, with three of those attempts coming on quality looks.

Nazareth's Julia Delgatti had a pair of one-on-one opportunities in the 31st and 33rd minutes of action, but Elmira goalkeeper Amanda Banner '17 would make two of her game's eight saves to keep the Golden Flyers off the scoreboard. Banner would come up with one additional big save in the first half, stopping a well-struck free kick from 18 yards out, as the team squads headed into the halftime break knotted at 0-0.

However, it would only take Nazareth 43 seconds into the second half to take the first lead of the game. Michaela Soules stole a pass out of EC's defensive third, before quickly toeing the ball past Banner for the score.

Nazareth struck for three additional goals in the second half in the 63rd, 81st, and 88th minutes, to solidify a 4-0 Golden Flyer victory.

Turning Point
Despite being outshot 9-to-2 in the first half, Elmira was solid defensively and held Nazareth scoreless in the first 45 minutes. However, a slow start by the Soaring Eagles, resulted in a Golden Flyer goal in the first 43 seconds of the second half. Nazareth went on to tally three additional second-half goals en route to a four-goal win.
