Women's Hockey Prepares for Buffalo State Bouts

Complete Game Notes

ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College women's ice hockey team will face its third ECAC West Conference opponent in as many weeks, when the Soaring Eagles square off against Buffalo State in Buffalo, New York, on Friday and Saturday, November 18th and 19th. Friday's game is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m. and Saturday's matchup is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.

WEEKEND OVERVIEW
  • After their second straight sweep of an ECAC West program, defeating Chatham University twice over the past weekend, the Purple and Gold enter this weekend's contests with a perfect 4-0-0 record.
  • Elmira successfully honored the legacy of the late great Laura Hurd '05 on Friday night with a ceremonial pre-game puck drop, which was performed by Laura's mother, Jennifer Hurd, and brother, Steven Hurd.
  • This weekend's bouts marks the first time since the 2012-13 season that both games in the series will be played in Buffalo, New York.
  • Elmira has only lost to the Bengals once, owning an all-time record of 36-1-0 in the series.
  • The only time that EC has suffered defeat at the hands of Buffalo State was a 4-3 overtime loss on February 13, 2011.
  • Elmira's power-play unit leads all of Division III Hockey scoring on nine out of its 22 power-play chances (40.9 percent). For reference, the next closest program has scored on 32.0 percent of their PP chances.

LAHEY'S OUTSTANDING WEEKEND
  • Sophomore blueliner Meg Lahey broke out over the weekend, posting four points on two goals and a pair of assists in two blowout victories over Chatham.
  • Lahey's weekend performance was enough to earn her ECAC West Player of the Week honors.
  • She especially shined in Friday's matchup, posting three of her four points on one goal and a pair of assists on power-play goals.
  • The three points from Friday's bout matched the Latham, New York, native's entire scoring output from her rookie season.
  • With Lahey's second goal of the weekend in Saturday's tilt, she has already doubled her amount of goals in her freshman campaign in just four games.

NELSON AND CRAWFORD SHINE
  • Both EC goalkeepers earned victories this past weekend, with Kyle Nelson receiving the win on Friday and Kelcey Crawford posted a shutout on Saturday.
  • Nelson improved her goals against average to a stellar 0.67, the fourth-lowest in all of Division III hockey.
  • With three straight wins to start the season, the senior's record now sits at an unblemished 3-0-0, which improves her career record to 32-6-2.
  • Crawford made nine saves in her first appearance of the season to earn the shutout, the seventh of her career.

BUFFALO STATE AT A GLANCE
  • The Bengals enter the weekend with a 4-1-1 overall record and a 3-1-0 record in ECAC West play.
  • Buffalo State played its first four games at home, en route to a 3-0-1 record. During that homestand the Bengals earned two one-goal victories over conference foe Utica College.
  • Buffalo State's lone loss of the season came at the hands of SUNY Potsdam, as the programs split two contests at the Bears' Maxcy Ice Arena.
  • Junior Erin Gehen paces the Bengals' offense with seven points on five goals and two assists.
  • Justine Silva has started all six games in net for the Bengals. She ranks eighth in the league with a 1.40 goals-against average.
