BRADFORD, Penn. -- Third-year midfielder
Jordyn Rousselle '18 tallied for the second consecutive game, but that would be the only offense the Elmira College women's soccer team could produce in a 2-1 loss to the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford on Wednesday afternoon.
After a pair of early-season shutouts, Rousselle – EC's leading goal scorer a year ago – and the Soaring Eagles appear to be finding their rhythm on the offensive end. The Stillwater, New York, native received a pass from classmate
Sara Kazerouni '18 that cleared the Pitt-Bradford defense in the 19th minute, and Rousselle beat Panthers goalie Sarah Dailey one-on-one. Rousselle's second goal of the year knotted the contest at 1-1.
Elmira opened the second half of play with an opportunity to pull ahead of the Panthers; in the 47th minute, a corner kick from
Amy Sullivan '18 found
Lindsay Proulx '18, but her shot sailed just wide of the net. The duo looked to connect again in the 74th minute, but this time the shot from Proulx flew high over the crossbar.
The latter of the scoring opportunities from Proulx was much-needed, as Pitt-Bradford had taken a 2-1 advantage on a goal from Jasmine Adams in the 61st minute.
Turning Point
Elmira was awarded four of its five corner kicks in the second half, including three while trailing the Panthers. However, only two produced shots and neither attempt was on target. Had Sullivan and Proulx connected for a score on their first corner in the 47th minute, EC would have surely been in the driver's seat for a victory, while the latter would have likely sent the game into overtime, giving the Purple and Gold a few extra minutes to produce a game-winner.
