Women's Golf Cards Lowest 36-Hole Score Since 2008 at Martin-Wallace Invitational

The Elmira College women's golf team wrapped up the annual Martin-Wallace Invitational, hosted by SUNY Cortland at the Cortland Country Club, with one of the lowest 36-hole cumulative scores in program history.

In the final tournament of the fall season before the Empire 8 Conference Championships, the Purple and Gold registered their lowest two-day cumulative score since the 2008-09 season, as the Soaring Eagles carded a 751 (+91). It marks the seventh-lowest two-round score in program history and the best since EC tallied a 746 at the William Smith Invitational in September of 2008.

Despite the outstanding performance, Elmira placed seventh out of ninth teams at the tournament. Ithaca College won the team title, as the Bombers finished 64-up with a 640, 12 strokes better than runner-up SUNY Cortland.

Individually, Audrey Clarke '18 and Meghan Fonfara '18 both earned top-20 finishes. Clarke climbed four places up the leaderboard on Sunday, thanks to her 10-over-par 82. She second-round score was a four-stroke improvement over Saturday's round of 18 holes. The Churchville, New York, native highlighted her second round by a on the ninth, as she was one of two players to birdie the par-3 hole in either round. Fonfara tied St. Lawrence University's Hailey Wilson for 18th place with a two-day score of 170 (+26). Following a career-low round of 84 (+12) on Saturday, the Elma, New York, native recorded an 86 (+14) on day two.

Alyssa Ogden '18 posted a 46th-place finish with a 36-hole score of 202 (+58), followed by Cassie Chun '18 in 48th place (211, +67) and Sarah Hiltbrand '19 in 50th (230, +86).

The Soaring Eagles will tee off the first round of the E8 Championships at the Ballston Spa Country Club in Ballston Spa, New York, on Saturday, October 14. The title tournament will conclude with 18 more holes on Sunday, October 15.
