Complete Game Notes
ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The 2016-17 regular season comes to end this weekend for the No. 4/5 Elmira College women's ice hockey team, as the Soaring Eagles host the Bears of SUNY Potsdam in ECAC West action at the Murray Athletic Center. Elmira opens the two-game series on Saturday, February 18th, at 3:00 p.m., before a 2:00 p.m. bout the following afternoon.
WEEKEND OVERVIEW
- The No. 4/5 Soaring Eagles will be looking to bounce back from last weekend's sweep against top-ranked Plattsburgh State, as the Purple and Gold welcome SUNY Potsdam to the Murray Athletic Center for an ECAC West series to close out the regular season.
- Elmira has already clinched the No. 2 seed in this year's ECAC West Tournament, and as a result will host a semifinal game on Sunday, February 26th.
- The Bears have also clinched a playoff spot as the league's sixth seed, but a pair of wins coupled with two losses by Utica would bump Potsdam up to the fifth spot.
- Elmira will play in its final two home games of the regular season, including Sunday's finale, which the Soaring Eagles will honor their five graduating members of the Class of 2017.
SIGN OF THINGS TO COME?
- Elmira enters the weekend winless in its last three games, suffering back-to-back defeats to No. 1 Plattsburgh and a 2-2 overtime tie against No. 7/8 Oswego State.
- The three-game winless streak is tied for the longest such streak of the season; Elmira also went 0-2-1 to open the month of January with a tie against No. 6 Middlebury and consecutive losses to No. 4/5 Norwich and No. 5/4 Adrian.
- After going 0-2-1 in January, the Soaring Eagles pieced together a season-long 10-game unbeaten streak that spanned from January 13th to February 4th.
- Elmira has had a knack for going on extended runs following back-to-back losses. Last season, EC dropped two straight to Plattsburgh and went on to win six consecutive games to end the regular season.
HOME IS WHERE THE DOME IS
- Senior Johanna Eidensten '17 has 13 points on the season, and the majority of those points have been scored on EC's home ice at the MAC.
- 11 of her 13 points have come at the MAC. Eidensten is tied with Jerolman for the team lead in home scoring.
- Jerolman's 11 points have come on five goals and six assists. Two of her goals came on EC power plays.
POTSDAM AT A GLANCE
- SUNY Potsdam heads into the weekend with a 12-10-1 overall record and a 8-7-1 mark in ECAC West play.
- The Bears are 1-4-0 in their last five games with Potsdam's lone win against William Smith in overtime, 4-3.
- Jordan Ott and Anna-Rose Bertin lead the Bears in scoring with 14 and 12 goals, respectively.
- Ott is also the team's point leader with 22 (14g, 8a), while Bertin is second with 15 (12g, 3a).
- Half of Ott's goals this season have come on the power play. Ott's six power-play tallies are tied for the conference lead.
- Potsdam has featured a trio of freshmen between the pipes, led by Alex Pfeiffer, who accounts for 73.9-percent of the team's goalie minutes.
- Pfeiffer has 463 saves on the year with a .915 save percentage and a 2.51 goals-against average.
