NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. -- After Saturday's action was halted due to darkness, the Elmira College women's golf team wrapped up play at the Utica College Invitational on Sunday with a second-place finish on the team leaderboard.
With a cumulative score of 758 (+174) at the Yahnundasis Golf Club, the Soaring Eagles trailed first-place Keuka College by a mere three strokes. However, EC's second-round score of 379 (+87) was the lowest of any team on Sunday and identical to its day-one score. The Soaring Eagles led all teams with nine birdies and carded one of the tournament's three eagles.
Elmira placed two inside the top 10 on the individual leaderboard, as
Audrey Clarke '18 was fourth and
Meghan Fonfara '18 was sixth. Clarke's morning began by wrapping up her last holes from the suspended first round, which included an eagle on the par-5 18th. Her second-round 84 (+11) matched her score from the opening round and was highlighted by a trio of birdies. The Churchville, New York, native ended the front nine with back-to-back birdies on the par-5 eighth and ninth, and she ended the tournament with another on the 18th.
After carding a 12-over-par 85 in the first round, Fonfara posted a 90 (+17) on Sunday to finish sixth out of the field of 27 with a 36-hole total of 175 (+29). She began the second round with a strong performance on the front nine with a 4-over 41, but parred only two holes on the back nine.
Fellow senior
Alyssa Ogden '18 ranked among the tournament leaders with three birdies and finished in 11th place with a two-round score of 189 (+43). The Fairport, New York, native shaved 17 strokes off her scorecard from the season-opening William Smith Invitational. She excelled on the par-5 eighth hole in both rounds, as she birdied the 417-yard hole again on Sunday.
Cassie Chun '18 and
Sarah Hiltbrand '19 both lowered their scores by several strokes on day two of the invite. Chun, who placed 22nd, carded her lowest round of the season on Sunday with a 110 (+37), which was six strokes better than her score on the first 18 holes. Likewise, Hiltbrand was one stroke shy of tying her best round of the year, but her 115 (+42) was nine less than her score from the opening round.
Taking home individual medalist honors was SUNY Delhi's Alison Agoglia, who was 18-over with a two-day score of 164. SUNY Canton's Cecelia Nealy and Keuka's Holly Reynolds tied for runner-up with matching scores of 166 (+20).
