ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Elmira College women's soccer couldn't fend off the high-flying attack of St. John Fisher College on Saturday afternoon, as the Soaring Eagles fell in their final contest of the 2018 season.
The Purple and Gold struggled to contain the Cardinals all afternoon, and St. John Fisher took advantage, netting three goals in the first 22 minutes of action. EC's senior goalkeeping duo of
Meghan Ray '19 and
Gabe Carmona '19 combined for eight saves.
Makenzie Winslow opened the scoring for the Cardinals in the 14th minute, taking advantage of a defensive miscue by the Soaring Eagles. Second-year talent
Zoya Katta '21 generated a scoring opportunity for the Purple and Gold in the 36th minute, but her attempt just missed wide of the Cardinals' net. St. John Fisher pushed ahead 4-0 right before the halftime break on a strike from Gabriella Borrelli.
The Purple and Gold had a chance to get on the board coming out of the halftime break. Less than a minute into the half, senior
Allie LoPresti '19 rifled a shot on target, but Kayla Shutts turned the attempt away. Fisher kept the pressure on throughout the rest of the half, registering three goals to give the game its final 7-0 scoreline.
