ELMIRA, N.Y. -- Following a 13-day break from competition, the Elmira College men's ice hockey team returns to action on Friday and Saturday, February 16-17, against United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) foes Chatham University and Lebanon Valley College. EC begins play with a 7:00 p.m. matchup against the Cougars on Friday at the Frozen Pond Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

LAST TIME OUT
The Soaring Eagles last competed on Saturday, February 3, when they tied Stevenson University, 2-2, in UCHC action in the Murray Athletic Center as part of the 36th Annual EC Athletics Alumni Weekend. The Mustangs stormed ahead twice in the contest both times by one goal. EC answered both times once in the first period and once in the second. Connor Powell '20 scored the first of the Purple and Gold's goals, while a Spencer MacLean '20 tally would serve as the final score of the game. Fellow sophomores Matthew Cuce '20, Calvin Hughson '20 and Anthony Parrucci '20 all recorded an assist in the bout. In goal, Gennaro Anzevino '21 made 24 saves to extend his unbeaten streak to three consecutive games (2-0-1).

PLAYOFF PICTURE
Elmira is one win away from clinching a UCHC playoff berth. The Soaring Eagles are currently the sixth seed in the conference with 17 points and Nazareth College is the seventh seed with 13 points. If EC defeats either Chatham or LVC this weekend, the Golden Flyers would be eliminated from tournament contention. However, Naz would threaten Elmira's playoff hopes with two wins and two EC losses this weekend. The results of this weekend's games also determines which teams with host the first round.

SCOUTING CHATHAM
The Cougars are currently ranked second-to-last in the UCHC with a conference record of 2-13-0 (2-18-3 overall). The Soaring Eagles defeated the Cougars back on December 1 at the Murray Athletic Center by a score of 5-2. Chatham ranks fourth in the conference in penalty minutes per game (16.0) and ranks last in scoring (1.43 gpg). Sophomore forward Jace Burton paces the team with 10 points (7g-3a), including his goal scored against Elmira in their first meeting. Sophomore forward Clay Plyler has nine points on the season, including a team-high eight assists. The Cougars have a three-goalie rotation with each starting six or more games this season. Freshman goalie Matt Calas was in the net during both of the team's wins and has a team-high save percentage of .919 on the year.

SCOUTING LEBANON VALLEY
The Flying Dutchmen are tied for first place in the UCHC with a conference record of 9-4-2 (10-9-2 overall). The Purple and Gold suffered a loss on their home ice against Lebanon Valley (5-2) earlier this season. Lebanon Valley ranks third in the conference in scoring (3.38 gpg) and in power-play percentage (22.2). Junior left wing Brett Johnson paces the team in points with 26 (12g-14a), which ranks eighth in the conference. Johnson is also ranked sixth in goals and is tied for fourth in power play points with his teammate, Brian Hovanec. Junior forward Hovanec has 22 points on the year (11g-11a) with seven of his goals scored during power plays. Lebanon Valley has a two-goalie rotation with sophomore goalie Tyler Perhac leading the team with a .913 save percentage. Perhac boasts a 6-4-1 record and has a win percentage of .591, which ranks third in the conference.

LOOKING FORWARD
As previously mentioned, a win over the weekend would give the Soaring Eagles an opportunity to compete in the upcoming UCHC Tournament. If Elmira finishes as either the third or fourth seed, it would host a quarterfinal game at the Murray Athletic Center on Wednesday, February 21, but would play on the road that night as the fifth or sixth seed.
