ELMIRA, N.Y. -- Early-season struggles continued for the Elmira College women's lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon against Lycoming College, as the Soaring Eagles dropped a 23-2 non-conference decision against the Warriors at the Ernie Davis Academy in Elmira, New York.
The Warriors scored a season-high 23 goals and finished with a sizable advantage in shots, 40-to-8. Aiding the offensive outburst was Lycoming's ability to dominate the draw circle, as 19 of the game's 26 draw controls were won by the visitors. Reigning Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Defensive Player of the Week, Kelly McGinniss, did her part by posting game highs in goals (5), draw controls (8) and caused turnovers (3).
On the other hand, the Soaring Eagles found themselves trailing 14-0 at halftime and surrendered the first 20 goals of the afternoon, before finally breaking through with a pair of late tallies. At the 12:25 mark of the second half,
Kyra McDonald '18 scored her fifth goal of the season. Inside the final four minutes of regulation,
Mae Dinh '19 managed to disrupt Lycoming goalie Ayana Hagan on an attempted clear, recover the ground ball and buried a point-blank shot.
Rachael Goetz '20 logged a team-high four draw controls for the Purple and Gold while starting goalie
Kacie Pierce '21 made a game-high six saves in 44:53 minutes of action.
