ELMIRA, N.Y. --
The Elmira College softball team dropped both ends of an Empire 8 Conference doubleheader at Eldridge Park on Sunday afternoon against the No. 15 nationally-ranked Cardinals of St. John Fisher College. The Soaring Eagles were held scoreless in both games, which ended with final scores of 6-0 and 13-0.

Game One
St. John Fisher, the 2017 NCAA Tournament runner-up, rode the arm of All-American pitcher Lindsey Thayer to a win in the opening game. Thayer allowed just three hits and struck out 14 in a complete-game effort.

Elmira starter McKenzie Slaven '20 turned an admirable performance as well. Only three of the six runs she allowed were earned, and the sophomore struck out three batters in the sixth complete game of her debut season. At the plate, Slaven logged one of EC's three hits, finishing 1-for-3 in the contest.

Down 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth, the Soaring Eagles spoiled Thayer's no-hit bid by registering back-to-back singles. The first hit was an opposite-field single from junior Rachel Katzenberger '19. Slaven then legged out a single on a bunt, and both runners moved into scoring position on a grounder in the ensuing at-bat. However, Thayer kept EC off of the scoreboard by striking out Emily Clark '19 to end the inning.

Allie Krohn '20 smacked the only other hit of the game for the Soaring Eagles, a deep double that she drove to the wall in right field.

Game Two
The Cardinals posted crooked numbers in the first, second, and fifth innings in the nightcap. A two-run home run off the bat of first baseman Sarah Kubik highlighted a three-run top of the first for Fisher, which added five more in the second.

Maddy Johnson '19 led off the bottom of the first with a base hit and moved up to second base on a sacrifice bunt. Elmira was unable to drive in the junior center fielder, as the pair of groundouts to short ended the frame. In the third inning, St. John Fisher's Monica Moses walked both Olivia Harnois '19 and Johnson, giving the Soaring Eagles a pair of baserunners with only one away. The third inning, however, ending in a similar fashion.

In the fifth inning, junior outfielder Amber Wallach '19 made her season debut at the plate and bounced a base hit back up the middle for her second career hit.

In the pitcher's circle, Katie McDougal '18 received the loss. She surrendered 13 runs (12 earned) with two strikeouts in 5.0 innings of work.
