ELMIRA, N.Y. --
The Elmira College softball team dropped both ends of a non-conference doubleheader against Lycoming College today at Eldridge Park Stadium. Both bouts of today's twin bill ended with identical 10-3 final scores.

Game One
The Warriors, who come off a 24-win 2017 campaign, were sharp in both the pitching circle and at the plate today, as they outhit the Soaring Eagles in both contests. The opener saw the widest margin of both bouts, as Lycoming tallied 14 hits, compared to EC's six.

Elmira starter McKenzie Slaven '20 was solid to begin the first game, as she held the Warriors to five runs (one earned) on six hits in 4.0 innings of work. It was in the top of the fifth, EC replaced Slaven with Katie McDougal '18, who closed out the final 3.0 innings with five runs allowed (three earned) and a pair of strikeouts.

The Soaring Eagles scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning off of a defensive error by Lycoming. With two on and two outs, Samantha Jenkins '20 grounded the ball to the opposing third baseman that was subsequently mishandled it, which allowed Sarah Garner '20 score from third.

EC added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning thanks in large part to more sloppy defense by the Warriors. A fielding error by the Lycoming center fielder allowed Maddy Johnson '19, who went 3-for-4 in the contest, to score her lone run of the bout. Rachel Katzenberger '19 also used an error to score a run in the seventh, reaching home from first after an error by the left fielder. It would prove to not be enough, however, as the Warriors held on to take the contest, 10-3.

Game Two
The second tilt of the day saw Lycoming again take a 5-0 lead before Elmira would get on the board. The Warriors scored two runs in the second and three in the third to take the early advantage.

Elmira was ready for this surge, however, as the Soaring Eagles plated three in the bottom of the third frame to bring the score to 5-3. For the second time today, Johnson was able to score a run following a fielding error to start the three-run inning. Allie Krohn '20 then capped off the frame by plating two with a two-run RBI single to left field.

After a scoreless fourth inning for both teams, the Warriors put the bout away in the fifth with a five-run flurry. Three singles, three walks and a pair of errors led to the road team taking the 10-3 advantage that EC would not touch for the remainder of the tilt.

In the pitcher's circle, McDougal received the loss. She surrendered nine runs (seven earned) in 4.1 innings of work. Freshman Bianca Palese '21 came in and pitched 2.2 innings of relief and allowed just one run and struck out one batter. It was Palese's first collegiate appearance in the circle.
