ROCHESTER, N.Y. --
The No. 20 nationally-ranked Cardinals of St. John Fisher College topped Elmira College women's lacrosse by a 20-1 final score today at Growney Stadium in Empire 8 Conference action. The bout brings a close to EC's 2018 league schedule.

The Cardinals' defense, which ranks first in the E8 with a 5.76 goals-against average, was clicking on all cylinders today. Fisher held the Soaring Eagles to six shots in the bout, compared to 40 for the Cardinals. This led to Fisher scoring the first nine goals of the contest.

Danielle Goddard '20 ended the scoreless streak with an unassisted tally at the 6:18 mark of the first half. Goddard's score came from a beautiful individual effort that saw the sophomore drive through three defenders to beat the opposing goal just over her stick.

Unfortunately for the Soaring Eagles, this would be their lone goal of the day. The Cardinals, on the other hand, went on to score the final 11 tallies of the contest to seal the 20-1 home conference victory.

On the defensive end of the field, Sarah Hughson '18 paced the Purple and Gold with four caused turnovers to go along with a team-high-tying three ground balls. Fellow senior Kelcey Crawford '18 ended the bout tied with Hughson with a trio of ground balls. Freshman goalie Kacie Pierce '21 made the start for EC and made six saves in 30 minutes, while Payton Rusin '18 posted three stops in while playing the entire second half.
