ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College women's lacrosse team wrapped up the 2018 season today with a 13-7 loss to SUNY Canton at Campus Field on Senior Day.
In a pregame ceremony, the Soaring Eagles honored the eight graduating member of the team -

Kiersta Pino '18,
Kyra McDonald '18,
Sarah Hughson '18,
Gyll Smith '18,
Rachel Grampp '18,
Kelcey Crawford '18 and
Louisa Lippiatt Durnell '18 - for their hard work and dedication over their times with the program.
Elmira was led in the bout by Durnell, who tallied three points on one goal and two assists.
Rachael Goetz '20 and McDonald finished tied for first on the team with two goals apiece. In total, four of EC's five point-getters today were seniors. Rusin made the start for EC in goal and played the first half with three saves. Freshman
Kacie Pierce '21 played the entire second half and made seven stops.
The Soaring Eagles opened the contest's scoring with a goal from Grampp. The senior ran past her defender and beat the opposing goalie to the bottom left corner with a beautiful under-handed shot. The Kangaroos evened the score at 1-1 with a goal just over three-and-a-half minutes later.
EC scored the next two goals to retake the lead, 3-1. Continuing the theme of seniors scoring, the back-to-back tallies were logged by Crawford and McDonald on free-position attempts. Canton again answered by ending the half on a 4-1 run to take a 5-4 advantage into the halftime break.
The Roos took a stranglehold in the contest with a strong start to the second half. Five consecutive goals scored by the visitors expanded Elmira's deficit to six goals, 10-4. The Soaring Eagles scored three more times in the half, but were unable to answer the initial attack by Canton, as EC fell by a 13-7 final score.
