WILKES-BARRE, Pa. -- Elmira College men's ice hockey skated stride for stride with the Colonels of Wilkes University, but 65 minutes of action could not yield a winner, as this afternoon's contest ended in a 4-4 overtime tie. Per the new overtime rules within the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC), an additional five minute 3-on-3 overtime period took place at the end of the first overtime session.

In the extra period, Wilkes found the back of the net to claim two league points, while the Soaring Eagles took home one point. With today's result, Wilkes sits atop the UCHC standings with 26 league points and Elmira held onto third place with 22 conference points.

Elmira finished today's contest with a 34-28 advantage in shots on goal. Both teams scored a pair of power-play goals, as Elmira went 2-for-7 on the power play and Wilkes ended the game 2-for-5 with the extra skater.

A total of nine EC skaters logged points this afternoon, led by third-year forward Nick Ford '20 who produced three points on two goals, one of which came on the power play, and one assist. Connor Powell '20 was close behind with two points on one goal and one assist.

Rookie Marty Kapoian '22 scored one power-play goal, while Matthew Cousino '22, Blake O'Neill '19, Spencer Carter '20, Andrew Pucci '20, Matthew Cuce '20 and Andrew Parrucci '20 all finished with one assist apiece as each logged an assist.

Gennaro Anzevino '21 got the start in net for the Soaring Eagles and recorded 24 saves in 65 minutes of action. Of his 24 stops, 10 were registered in the third period.

Powell scored his 15th goal of the season to give Elmira a 1-0 lead just 3:45 into the first period on assists from Ford and Carter. However, Nick Fea answered for Wilkes less than three minutes later with a power-play tally to send the two teams into the first intermission deadlocked, 1-1.

A penalty-laden second period saw the Purple and Gold go on the power play four times, as Wilkes was dinged for three infractions, one of which was a five-minute major. Kapoian gave the Soaring Eagles a one-goal lead by converting on one of EC's four power-play chances at the 17:22 mark. Pucci and O'Neill were credited with assists on the power-play score that sent Elmira into the final intermission with a 2-1 advantage.

Donald Flynn leveled the game at 2-2 for Wilkes with a power-play goal at 6:18. The tie did not stand for long though, as Ford delivered an extra-skater goal of his own at 8:07 on assists from Powell and Cousino.

However, 12 seconds later, Tyson Araujo tied the contest with an even-strength tally to knot the score at 3-3.

With less than six minutes left in regulation, it looked as though Ford scored the game-winning goal for the Soaring Eagles when he scored his 10th of the year at the 14:26 mark. Assisting on the goal were Cuce and Parrucci.

Wilkes responded once again, this time with an extra attacker, as Bredan Logan scored what would eventually be today's game-tying goal at 18:25.
